Super Easy 5 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Recipe

chocolate mousse

Chocolate Mousse is such a family favourite recipe – there really is nothing like it! And this recipe goes to show that the simplest things really are the yummiest. This Chocolate Mousse is made with only 5 ingredients and the best part is that you probably have them all in your fridge or cupboard right now! Yep, nothing fancy here – just a delicious and simple Chocolate Mousse.

Whether you’re making this dessert for a fancy dinner party, or perhaps just feel like a cheeky late night treat, this chocolate mousse will have you drooling (seriously). If you’re hosting a party, then it’s a fun idea to make a big double batch and spoon the mousse into little shot glasses to serve in individual portions – who doesn’t love a little mini dessert!

My favourite thing about this chocolate mousse recipe is that you can go as wild as you like with the toppings. You could of course keep it plain and simple and just serve the chocolate mousse on it’s own, but where’s the fun in that! You could go the classic route and add fresh strawberries, or if you’re a chocoholic, why not add a sprinkle of M&Ms or a crushed Peppermint Crisp bar. You could even chop up some honeycomb and add that to the top. If you’re catering for a kids birthday party, add a sprinkle of hundreds and thousands for a bright and colourful party food treat!

Ingredients:

  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 20g butter
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 250ml pouring cream

Method:

  1. Separate the eggs and set aside.
  2. Heat the chocolate and butter in a saucepan over very low heat and stir continuously until melted. Leave to cool slightly.
  3. Add the eggs yolks to the melted chocolate and butter mixture and stir through until well combined.
  4. Whisk the egg whites until soft peaks have formed.
  5. Slowly add the caster sugar to the egg whites and continue to beat until stiff peaks have formed.
  6. Very gently fold the melted chocolate mixture through the egg whites.
  7. Gently fold through the cream.
  8. Spoon into bowls or glasses and then place into the refrigerator until set.
  9. Decorate with toppings such as fresh berries, grated chocolate, whipped cream or crushed honeycomb.
